What's New at VirtualNet?
-
VirtualNet Domain Name Forged in "Spam" (10/12/97)
-
VirtualNet has never been involved in any fashion in the "spamming"
of Usenet, or the sending of Unsolicited Commercial Email. Unfortunately,
the name "virtual.net" is inherently attractive to spammers, and we
have been informed of several incidents where persons have received
UCE or Usenet postings with virtual.net in the headers or message-id.
We appreciate hearing about such incidents, and make a point of pursuing
the matter via InterNIC lookups and direct contact with any listed
parties in the NIC records.

VirtualNet ReOpens Client List! (10/12/97)
-
VirtualNet Consulting is pleased to announce that we have opened our
client list effective November 3rd, 1997. M. Strata Rose has returned
to the world of consulting after an extended absence. Ms. Rose
found the challenges and opportunities at Synopsys compelling, however
has chosen to return to VirtualNet and continue development of
the firm as an independent consulting clearinghouse. We welcome
inquiries from prospective clients at this time.
-
VirtualNet closes client list (2/3/96)
-
VirtualNet Consulting has closed its client list for 1996 and 1997.
Limited design engagements for current and previous VirtualNet clients
may be made by special arrangement. We must regretfully decline to
accept bids leading to new client relationships.
Our principal and founder, M. Strata Rose, has accepted an employee position
at Synopsys Incorporated. Ms. Rose is currently serving as Postmaster for
Synopsys, a 2000+ employee firm with over 20 offices worldwide. She is
re-engineering Synopsys' email delivery environment and is involved with the
internal Technology Architecture Group. Ms. Rose also serves as an internal
resource to the Security group.

A Refutation of Cyberspace Independence (02/11/96)
-
I hate the Communications Decency Act (sometimes called the Telecomm
Reform Act) as much as anyone else, but just couldn't let Barlow's
"Declaration" pass. The man has done much good for cyberspace, but
everyone misses the mark now and then...

Strata: TextFlow: Poetry (12/21/95)
-
I've had a lot of time to read over the last ten weeks of enforced
idleness, and spent much of it reading poetry for the first time.
The net result being that in addition to essays, email, and journal
entries, I seem to be writing poetry these days. Okay. I can cope.

- Dr. Obnoxious: What's It To Ya? (9/10/95)
-
How should I explain Dr. Obnoxious? Perhaps it's better not to try.
While not necessarily encompassing adult themes of sex and violence,
the Dr. Obnoxious pages are, well, let's just say if no one is
offended we're surprised. "Don't worry, they're shouting because they
love it!"
- Burning Man Festival Projects & Reviews (8/23/95, 9/11/95)
-
"Veni, Vidi, Boom. Repeatedly." I was very pleased to attend the
Burning Man "festival" (what a low-key word) this year for the first
time. It certainly won't be the last. Pictures and details still
filling in from the fest...
- The Mix Pages (8/19/95)
-
The as yet extremely unpretentious nerve center of the greatest
repository of eclectic tastes ever known. Well, okay, a place to put
up my own mixes, and some ones of other folks. Check it out-- Mix
Guestbook coming soon...

- Women, Take Back the Net (5/18/95)
- Having received my first-ever piece of harrassing/obscene email in
14 years of Internet presence, I am not amused. I've created a
resource page for notifying Internet Service Providers of harrassing
email originating at their sites, and solicit notification addresses
and stories of personal experiences dealing with electronic harrassment.

Phil Zimmerman vs. the anti-cryptography 3-letter Agencies. Please
visit the ZLDF Home Pages to see what all the fuss is about and why
you should care!
- TIIAP Internet Grants Program Under Attack (4/07/95)
- The Telecommunications & Information Infrastructure
Administration Program puts schools, libraries, and local governments
on the net with grants, educational programs, and resources. In
today's budget-cutting frenzy, TIIAP is in danger.
